Chiropractic is a primary health care profession concerned with the diagnosis, assessment and correction of neuromuscular conditions of the spine and body.

At Sensorium Chiropractic we believe that the body is always trying to heal but throughout life we put ourselves under enormous amounts of stress which potentially slows the process of healing down. That is why we are particularly interested in looking at the patient as a whole and discussing the three areas of life that we as humans receive in forms of stress on a daily basis. These are Physical, Chemical and Emotional Stress.

Physical Stress

Physical stressors can be anything that we do on a daily basis including manual work, competitive sports or strenuous activities.

Although physical stress is good for us, anything in excess eventually has a negative effect on our physiology. 

Chemical Stress

Chemical stressors are caused by things such as poor diet, smoking, alcohol, drugs, and prescribed medications etc. This can lead to inflammation in the body which can eventually lead to pain and discomfort.

Living a healthy lifestyle, following a healthy diet and participating in the recommended amount of weekly exercise can help reduce inflammation levels.

This in turn will reduce symptoms of pain while increasing overall strength, health and wellness.

Emotional Stress

Our lives are extremely fast paced and as a society we are always looking and ready for that next threat. As a result we spend prolonged periods of time sympathetically driven. This side of our nervous system is also known as our fight or flight, which is great in short bursts but becomes harmful to our physiology when we spend prolonged periods of time in this state.

When was the last time you took some time out for yourself and did something you really enjoyed and relaxed?

As Chiropractors we not only help with the physical aspect by delivery manual therapy and providing rehabilitation exercises.

We can look at the other stress factors as mentioned above and work together to create a plan to improve the quality of your life.

In one of my favourite books “Atomic Habits” By James Clear. He clearly explains the power behind small improvements and gains.

As a society we are guilty of seeking instant gratification. But where is the fun in that? There is always much more pleasure and feeling of success in knowing that you have worked hard for something and really deserved it.

At the end of the day, health is a journey not a destination.
